Installing MIUI Rom on Galaxy S (Guide)

Update : This guide includes Safe Froyo Base (recommended by Cyanogenmod team) which includes safe bootloaders, and bundled with Speedmod Kernel. Now installation is much easier :)
Thanks to Cyanogenmod (Galaxy S) developers.

Requirements -  

  1. Safe Froyo Base (Single file, including CWM, SpeedMod, Safe Bootloaders) - Download
  2. Cyanogenmod 7 Intial Kernel (cm7-galaxys-initial-kernel.tar) Download  - fixed :)
  3. MIUI ROM (Latest build) - Download
  4. Odin 1.7 - Download
  5. 512pit file - Download

First things first :)

  1. Copy MIUI Rom to sdcard.
  2. Make sure you’ve fully charged your phone’s battery.
  3. Backup important data.

Flashing Froyo Base -

  1. Unplug Galaxy S if it’s connected to PC and Switch it off completely.
  2. Put your phone in Download Mode (Power Button + Home Button + Volume Down)
  3. Open Odin 1.7
  4. Click on PDA Tab in odin and select Select GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar as PDA
  5. Select 512pit as PIT and check re-partition tab.
  1. Connect your phone to Computer’s USB Port.
  2. Now hit START Button.
  3. After successful flash, your phone is on Froyo 2.2 XXJPY with Froyo Bootloaders and Speedmod Kernel

Now you’ll find your phone having Froyo XXJPY, Correct bootloader, and Speedmod Kernel too. This completes first part of this tutorial.


Installing CM7 Intial Kernel -
  1. Unplug Galaxy S if it’s connected to PC and Switch it off completely.
  2. Put your phone in Download Mode (Power Button + Home Button + Volume Down)
  3. Open Odin 1.7
  4. Click on PDA Tab in Odin and select Select cm7-galaxys-initial-kernel.tar as PDA
  5. Uncheck Auto Reboot [VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT]
  6. Connect your phone to Computer’s USB Port.
  7. Now hit START Button.
  8. After successful Pass, your phone may remain in Download mode only.
  9. Pull out battery and put it in again.

Installing MIUI ROM (The clean method)

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. Go to Recovery Menu (Volume Up + Home + Power Key)
  3. Go to Recovery Menu
  4. Go to Mounts and storage
  5. Perform following tasks
  1. format /system
  2. format /cache
  3. format /data
  1. Return to recovery main menu
  2. Select Install zip from sdcard
  3. Select  MCGv3.zip (or any latest build) and select YES MCGv3.zip 
  4. It will perform MIUI ROM installation.
  5. Wait until your phone is fully booted. It may take sometime but it’s completely normal. :)
  6. WELCOME TO MIUI ROM
